Somebody Special has a Birthday Today. . .

Dreams really do come true! Brant as one year- old sporting a Skywest ball cap... (I wish Skywest had company parties so that I could submit this for a slideshow of employees!)

25 years later...sitting in the right seat of a cockpit in a Skywest CRJ700! Happy 26th Birthday sweetie- here's to always "living the dream"!

Long Beach & Farmer's Markets

On Friday afternoon, I headed out to Long Beach on a flight that Brant was flying (its a bummer whenever I get home after 5pm and he has to leave shortly after that for a trip- so I went along). It was a fun flight- its always neat to hear Brant on the PA system. I also sat next to a flight attendant for Jet Blue who is my age and living in Park City, but is based out of Long Beach and is also into photography. We got into Long Beach around 8:30pm- but since our flight back to Salt Lake was at 6:45am in the morning, we settled for a hole in the wall Mexican Restaurant to eat dinner at and then hit the hay. This is after we landed and Brant was doing the post flight.

The next morning we get to the airport to discover that the computers at the Skywest counters are down and that they "cancelled" the flight. Luckily, after two hours, they end up giving up on the computers and just boarded people onto the plane from a faxed list of passengers. Brant was a trooper- he tried to help with getting the system back up. I took this pic from where I was standing in line with the rest of the passengers.

After the computer chaos in Long Beach, we arrived back into Salt Lake, and, since Brant still had a trip to Billings MT and back before heading home, I wandered around town to pass a few hours until he got back. I ended up at the Salt Lake Farmer's Market and had a blast!! I loved seeing all the different types of things people were selling- as well as all the different types of people who attended. It made me want to pitch a tent and sell something of my own! Farmer's Markets have such a friendly atmosphere- you feel like your buying from friends instead of from a bored checker at a grocery store. I ended up with some Utah grown honey, fabulous red raspberry jam, a loaf of wheat bread, and a cute headband. I still had time to kill after that, so I headed over to Gateway and picked up a few things I "needed" before heading back to the airport to pick up Brant. It was definately a fun day!

It Wasn't Raining when Noah Built the Ark

Tonight we had Enrichment and it was fantastic! The Enrichment committee did such a great job on preparing- everything was organized and ran smoothly. We had a lesson from Claudia on emergency prepardness, and then made our own 72 hour kits (I made two- one for both me and Brant). And for refreshments, we had strawberry shortcake :)

My Turn

1. If I had time, I'd spend 2 hours at the gym every day.

2. If you want to put me on edge, gulp whatever your drinking when your around me.

3. I've never read a Harry Potter book.

4. If you asked me when I was 8 years old what I wanted to be when I grew up, I would have told you an Olympic diver (I used to take diving lessons).

5. If you asked me when I was in middle school what I wanted to be when I grew up, I would have told you a jockey (I used to take horseback riding lessons.)

6. If you asked me when I was in high shcool what I wanted to be when I grew up, I would have told you the CEO of Coca-Cola.

7. I now work in marketing of a company that does research in the healthcare IT industry.

8. I'm still trying to figure out what the healthcare IT industry is.

9. Both Brant and I keep spare sporks in our car glove boxes. Yes. Sporks. It seems that whenever we go through the drive through at Taco Bell (about once a week) 70% of the time they forget to put a spork in with my Pintos & Cheese and about 69% of the time we forget to check for a spork before we drive away. So we've both learned to keep sporks on hand at all times.

10. I wish people didn't use the phrase "I don't care." Even for small things. I think that really what they mean is "I don't want to bother myself with making that decision so I'm putting it back on you".Please, for Pete's sake- just make the decision.

11. I'm not a big fan of the word "tagged" - it's not like we're at recess. If you'll notice, I titled this post "My Turn".

12.. After my freshman year of college, I interned at Walt Disney World as a "Merchandise Hostess" (translation - cashier) and my roomate was Mickey Mouse at the Animal Kingdom.

13. The trend that summer in Orlando was Skydiving. Its quite exhilirating to be the last to jump from a plane and see all your friends take the plunge before you. I'd do it again- but only if someone else paid for it (its pretty pricey).

14. I served a mission in the Utah Provo; St. George Temple Visitor Center; German speaking mission.

15. No. I did not speak a lot of German. When Germans came through, they generally spoke better English than I could German.

16. I got my first job when I was 15 at a place called Stevi B's Pizza. Except there was so much dating and drama between all the high schoolers that worked there that we referred to it as Stevi B's 90210.

17. My favorite color is clear.

18. I'm a savvy shopper and have a coupon box with 160 different sections of coupons to prove it. However, don't get being a savvy shopper confused with being cheap. I can just get more for my buck.

19. In college and throughout my mission, I had 39 roomates. And I can remember all of their names and where they are from (and if they were easy to live with...)

20. I love the Miss America program (not to be confused with the Miss USA program). When I was in college at BYU-Idaho, I won the title of Miss Ada County (that means Boise) and went on to compete in the Miss Idaho pageant. I'm not even from Idaho, but free scholarship money is never a bad thing (by the way, if you don't love the Miss America program, then it means you don't understand it. Come talk to me and I'll tell you all about how the program promotes service and a means of scholarships and how it prepares you for real life jobs from having to stand in front of a panel of 5 judges who fire off questions about politics and religion and you have to maintain your composure.

21. When I was in college, at any given point I'd be working an average of 2.5 jobs.

22. The summer before my mission, I interned with a company in San Antonio called Del Sol. No, not as in the car or the restaurant, but as in this.

I don't 'tag' anyone. But if you want to take a turn, go for it.

Weekend Trip!

On Sat morning we headed down to Phoenix to spend the day with some friends. It was a blast! Literally - this is Cambi right after discovering the flat tire on the car. (There's nothing like changing a tire in Phoenix 115 degree weather!) We had a great time- a few highlights...

Went swimming, played with the Nikon D40 (hence this photo), ate an awesome steak BBQ...
And then wrapped up the day playing Rock Band and a few rounds of Pit. (Nancy - do you recognize that pink shirt??)

Thanks for a great time guys!!

A neat pic

Brant's having fun with our new camera too. Here's a neat sparkle shot (in my novice opinion). We're headed to Phoenix tomorrow- have a good weekend!

In my opinion

This is the prettiest hospital I've seen (across the street from our apt complex). They recently added onto the building and added the lettering. With the nice landscaping and mountain background its rather pleasant to look at.

A few thoughts

My days break down like this: 1/3 of the day at work, and 1/3 sleeping. That leaves a measely 1/3 left to clean, spend time together, grocery shop, work out, focus on church callings, read, and do the things that I actually want to do. Maybe there's another 1/3 of the day that I haven't yet discovered and we can squeeze our goal in this year of visiting 3 places we've never been - like here, here, or here (or maybe even revisiting here).

Happy Father's Day

And early 4th of July! I made this dessert (courtesy of here) tonight in honor of both holidays....by the way those are bluberries and raspberries.

Latest Investment

We've been researching the best kind of "hobbyist" camera and looking around town and online for the best prices we can find- we both agreed on this. The point and shoot digital cameras we had before were fine for small stuff, but to really learn the settings and art of photography you need some type of SLR camera (I justify this purchase with the fact that it will be the last camera that we ever buy). FYI: Circuit city stores will match the price that is listed on their website; if you just go into the store and buy it, your likely to pay more.

Vocab Lesson

Juxtaposition. I think its my new favorite word. This photo was taken by yours truely to try to illustrate the concept of juhk-stuh-puh-zish-uhn (in case you couldn't tell by the accidental amateur cropping).

Happy One Year Anniversary...

To my wonderful, amazing sweetheart. You are the best thing that's ever happened to me.

Road Trip!

On Friday I took a half day off work and flew out to Ft. Worth where my sister lives. Since she needed to get out out to Utah for an education conference, I helped her drive (she's still recovering from a broken foot). When I arrived there Fri evening, we headed over to my in-laws to pick up Brant's gun to bring home with us - and had a nice visit with Nancy & Pops. Then we started driving on Sat morning and got to Denver - and since Brant had finished up his trip earlier that day, he flew out to Denver to meet us that evening. We spent Sat night at a couple's home that my sister knew from her mission. Oh, man, talk about a suh-weet home in the ritzy part of Denver. I have never in my life slept on a bed like that. Imagine sleeping in the clouds and you can imagine what this sweet royal bed was like! (This actually isn't the bed- the "real bed" was better than this. This picture is just for a visual :)

Card Club tonight!

The theme is Father's Day, but I think I'm going to make/bring 4th of July cards instead...

And we're off!

We had our first photo 101 class this evening; it may be a little ambitious to photo real people for my first ever assignments, but if you've got some extra time (or kids that have extra time) and want to pose for my assignments, let me know!

A few highlights

A few memories from spending the day at California Adventures. It was so fun to see my old roomate Shelly who works there now! If your curious about the photo of Flick- its a hilarious story and an inside joke for us now! These photos are a little distorted, but I anticipate that my photo taking skills can only improve since I'm taking Nicole's photo 101 class during the month of June!

Surprise!

We ended up here over the weekend! More pics to follow...
